KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar has said that electronic challans (e-challans) will be issued to the person in whose name the vehicle is registered.
Speaking to Geo News, Lanjar said that e-challans will be implemented wherever traffic signals are installed in Karachi, and that the cameras installed with the signals will be activated within a month.
He added that the government plans to install 12,000 cameras across Karachi within the next one to one-and-a-half years.
The minister noted that 2,600 challans were issued in Karachi yesterday, adding that for a city of its size, “2,600 challans are nothing.”
Lanjar said there will be two types of challans for motorcycles, and reiterated that the e-challan will go to the person whose name appears on the vehicle registration.
He added that it is also an offense if a vehicle remains registered in someone’s name even after being sold.
