The Karachi Traffic Police has launched a mobile application called “TRACS Citizen” to provide motorists with instant e-challan alerts and access to their vehicle and violation information.
The app was introduced following the rollout of the city’s new AI-powered e-challan system, which uses a network of CCTV cameras to monitor traffic violations electronically.
Technology Behind TRACS (TRAX)
The Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS), also referred to as TRAX, is built on a powerful integration of artificial intelligence and real-time data processing. The system is currently operational with 200 high-definition cameras across Karachi. In the next phase, this number will increase to 12,000 cameras, eventually extending the system to all major districts of Sindh.
Features of the app
The app can be downloaded for Android and iPhone mobiles on their respective platforms.
All registered vehicles under a person’s ID card will appear on the app automatically once you log in.
Upon logging in with their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), users can view all vehicles registered under their name.
How to Use the App for Tracking
- Download: Android: Google Play Store

- Register: Enter CNIC, name, mobile number, and email. Verify via OTP.
- Lodge/Track a Complaint: Select a category (e.g., “Traffic Police” for e-challan issues).
- Describe the problem and attach evidence.
- Get a unique tracking ID instantly.
- Use the “Track Complaint” section to check progress.
- Resolution: Complaints are routed to relevant offices (e.g., Sindh IG Traffic for challans). Average resolution time is 7-21 days, with appeals possible.
Violation alerts
The app sends real-time notifications for traffic rule violations. Users receive both an initial warning message and a follow-up with the official e-challan. Users can monitor the status of their e-challans and access their violation history.
Educational tool
The application is intended to help citizens understand their driving patterns and promote safer driving habits.
How E-Challan Tracking Works
The app also provides details on the new digital e-challan system, which replaces manual tickets to ensure greater transparency and accountability.
The “Tracks Citizen” app is part of a broader digital initiative by the Karachi Traffic Police.
