The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) and UN Women have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly advance women’s economic empowerment through digital inclusion in the province.
The collaboration falls under the Digitalization for Women Economic Empowerment (D4WEE) project, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Under this partnership, UN Women and KPITB will work together to strengthen women’s participation in the digital economy by leveraging KPITB’s leadership, infrastructure, and alignment with provincial digital policies in Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi.
The signing ceremony was hosted by Secretary of Science, Technology & IT Department, Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, along with the Managing Director KPITB and senior officials of the Board. In his address, the Secretary emphasized the province’s ongoing efforts under the Digital KP Roadmap 2030 and highlighted women’s crucial role in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s digital transformation. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting women’s inclusion in all digital initiatives through KPITB.
UN Women Pakistan Country Representative, Mr. Jamshed Kazi, remarked that women must be encouraged and given equal opportunities in the digital economy. He expressed appreciation for the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and KPITB for their leadership and collaboration in promoting digital empowerment for women.
This partnership represents a significant step toward closing the gender gap in technology and ensuring that women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gain equal access to digital resources, platforms, and economic opportunities.
