A sharp increase has been recorded in the prices of ghee and cooking oil, further burdening household consumers already struggling with inflation.
According to details, inflation-weary citizens face yet another blow as prices of essential food commodities have surged.
Sources revealed that the price of premium-quality ghee and cooking oil has risen by Rs.10, reaching Rs.582 per litre/kilogram, while the second-grade variety is now being sold at Rs.540 per litre/kilogram.
The price of sugar has also increased by Rs.2 per kilogram, bringing it to Rs.179 per kilogram.
Experts attribute the recent price hike to rising rates in the international market and pressure on supply chains, warning that further fluctuations are likely.
Citizens reported that the continuous increase in prices of daily essentials has severely impacted household budgets.
Meanwhile, tomato prices have also skyrocketed, reaching between Rs.500 and Rs.700 per kilogram, despite the official rate being fixed at Rs.368 per kilogram.
Retailers said that the surge in prices is primarily due to disruptions in trade routes and reduced supply, with the highest rates observed in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Burns Road areas.
