Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a strong bearish trend on Thursday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index shed 1962.86 points with a negative change of 1.18%, closing at 164,590.41 points against 166,553.27 points in the previous session.
Selling pressure prevailed in the stock market during the whole session, and the market dropped to 164,395.38 during the midday trading. The highest of the session was recorded at 166,720.42 points.
A total of 474 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 147 recorded gains, 291 sustained losses, and 36 remained unchanged.
The total trading volume was 1,501,744,540 shares compared to 1,568.82 million shares the previous day, while the traded value decreased to Rs 49.437 billion from Rs 55.06 billion.
Selling was observed in key sectors including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies, OMCs, power generation and refineries. Index-heavy stocks, including ARL, HUBCO, MARI, OGDC, POL, PPL, HBL, MEBL and NBP, traded in the red.
On Wednesday, PSX witnessed a volatile and largely bearish session. The benchmark KSE-100 Index dropped by 793.56 points, or 0.47%, to settle at 166,553.28 points.
