The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) ended its winning streak on Wednesday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index fell by nearly 800 points.
The session began with positive momentum, with the index rising over 400 points during intra-day trading. However, heavy selling pressure later in the day erased early gains, and the benchmark closed at 166,553.27 — down 793.56 points or 0.47%.
Buying was initially observed in key sectors, including cement, oil and gas exploration, oil marketing companies (OMCs), power generation, pharmaceuticals, and refineries.
On Tuesday, the PSX had extended its winning streak for a second consecutive session, driven by investor optimism following the recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The KSE-100 had gained 1,103.93 points, or 0.66%, to close at 167,346.83.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the country’s economy is showing signs of sustained recovery, supported by macroeconomic stability, structural reforms, and renewed international confidence — reflected in several recent credit rating upgrades.
In the currency market, the Pakistani rupee appreciated by 0.07% against the US dollar during early trading hours on Wednesday. As of 10:00 a.m., the local currency was trading at 280.87, up by Re0.19.
