Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has strongly condemned recent attacks originating from Afghanistan and reminded Kabul of Pakistan’s decades-long record of brotherhood, sacrifice and humanitarian support for the Afghan people.
Afridi said Pakistan has consistently stood by Afghanistan in difficult times and treated its problems as its own, but recent cross-border incidents have strained bilateral ties.
He recalled that Pakistan hosted nearly four million Afghan refugees for years and said he personally sponsors 350 Afghan families, underscoring the depth of historic humanitarian and religious bonds between the two nations.
Expressing regret, Afridi said it is painful to see Afghanistan “forget” Pakistan’s sacrifices and goodwill. He called the attacks on Pakistan’s borders unacceptable and defended the response of Pakistan’s security forces as measured and strictly defensive.
Afridi warned Afghan leaders to exercise prudence and refrain from actions that could undermine regional peace and bilateral relations.
He urged that Afghan territory must not be used by any third party to foment terrorism against Pakistan, adding that Afghanistan is a fellow Muslim brother, not an enemy.
