RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized over 500 kilograms of dead and substandard chicken meat in separate raids conducted in Bagh Sardaran and Choa Saidan Shah areas of Rawalpindi.
According to a PFA spokesperson, the team acted on a tip-off about the supply of dead poultry in Bagh Sardaran and intercepted a vehicle carrying 400 kilograms of dead chickens, which were immediately disposed of on the spot. The driver failed to produce any valid record for the poultry.
In another raid at a chicken shop in Choa Saidan, the PFA confiscated 100 kilograms of substandard meat and fined the shop owner Rs50,000 for storing stale chicken.
iOne suspect was arrested, while a case was registered against the vehicle owner at the concerned police station.
The spokesperson said that the timely operation prevented the sale of contaminated meat, protecting citizens from consuming unsafe food. He added that strict action against the sale of dead and diseased poultry is underway across Punjab.
Citizens have been urged to report such violations to the PFA Helpline 1223 to help curb the sale of unhygienic poultry.
