Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has set 2028 as the deadline for the completion of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway, a key segment of the country’s north-south transport corridor.
Briefing the National Assembly’s Economic Affairs Committee, NHA officials said that a general procurement notice for the project has already been issued, while negotiations with the OPEC Fund and the Saudi Fund for Development are underway for joint financing. Construction activities will begin once contracts are finalized.
Committee members, however, expressed concerns over the loan obtained from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for the project.
The committee chairman noted that the interest rate exceeds 6 percent, to which officials responded that the loan was taken in accordance with IsDB terms, with a 20-year repayment period and a five-year grace period.
