Left-arm spinner Noman Ali continued to trouble South African batters, taking two early wickets in the Proteas’ chase of 277 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday.
South Africa ended the day on 51/2, with Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton unbeaten on 16 and 29 runs, respectively.
In the second innings of the Lahore Test, Pakistan were bowled out for just 167 runs, setting South Africa a target of 277 for victory.
Beginning their second innings on day three with a lead of 109 runs, Pakistan suffered an early collapse. Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood, both of whom had scored half-centuries in the first innings, fell cheaply for 0 and 7 respectively.
Abdullah Shafique scored 41 before being dismissed with the team total at 64. Babar Azam contributed 42 runs but failed to anchor the innings.
Saud Shakeel, who was out for a duck in the first innings, managed to score 38 in the second before falling to Muthusamy at 150. Mohammad Rizwan (14), Salman Ali Agha (4), Shaheen Afridi (0), Nauman Ali (11), and Sajid Khan (1) offered little resistance.
Pakistan’s final five wickets fell for just 17 runs, ending the innings at 167.
For South Africa, Muthusamy, who took 6 wickets in the first innings, added another 5 in the second. Simon Harmer claimed 4, while Kagiso Rabada picked up 1 wicket.
Earlier in the day, left-arm spinner Noman Ali finished with six wickets as Pakistan dismissed South Africa for 269 in the first Test in Lahore after Tony de Zorzi’s gutsy century.
Noman returned figures of 6-112 for his ninth haul of five wickets or more in Tests as South Africa lost their last four wickets for 53 runs an hour before lunch, having resumed on 216-6.
Pakistan lead by 109 after they scored 378 in their first innings.
De Zorzi carried the fight to Pakistan on a turning Qaddafi Stadium pitch as he completed his second Test century with a six and two singles off Noman.
