In response to the persistent traffic congestion and ongoing structural issues at Natha Khan Bridge, located on Karachi’s main artery Shahrah-e-Faisal, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to construct an alternative road in the area.
According to details, the KMC said that the decision was made by Mayor Murtaza Wahab due to the deteriorating condition of the bridge and repeated incidents of iron theft, which have necessitated frequent repairs and caused significant inconvenience to commuters.
Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has directed the Engineering Department to complete a detailed survey within one week and begin construction of the alternative route immediately.
The issue was discussed in a recent meeting where the mayor stressed the need for a long-term solution instead of temporary fixes.
He emphasized that addressing public complaints and resolving urban issues in a timely and sustainable manner is the administration’s top priority. “Citizens deserve actions that bring lasting and visible improvements,” he said.

It’s worth noting that Natha Khan Bridge has undergone multiple rounds of repairs in recent months. In August, drug addicts allegedly stole steel reinforcement bars from the bridge’s beams, leading to the collapse of one of the beams and the formation of a deep crater several feet wide. Although repair work has since begun, traffic flow remains heavily disrupted.
These repeated acts of vandalism have had a serious impact on the city’s infrastructure. At Natha Khan Bridge, iron rods were cut out of structural beams, causing the middle lane of the bridge—leading toward the airport—to give way, further worsening the city’s traffic woes.
