Remembering Pakistan’s golden era of cricket, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved a historic step to pay tribute to the 1992 World Cup-winning team at Peshawar’s Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.
According to details, from now on, every enclosure of the stadium will be named after those players who won Pakistan’s first and only One Day World Cup, as a result of which the nation still remembers them as the best One Day cricket team in the country’s history.
This proposal, presented by the provincial sports department, was formally approved in the latest cabinet meeting. Soon, spectators watching matches at Imran Khan Stadium will find themselves sitting in stands named after those legends who cemented their legacy in the folklore of cricket.
It should be remembered that under the leadership of Imran Khan, who later became the country’s Prime Minister, the 1992 team included players such as Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Aqib Javed, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saleem Malik, Ijaz Ahmed, Aamer Sohail, Ramiz Raja, Mushtaq Ahmed, Iqbal Sikander, Moin Khan, Zahid Fazal, and Wasim Haider, who have been decided to be honored.
This move comes after the earlier decision to rename the famous Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium after the team’s captain, which is another effort to preserve the region’s rich sporting heritage, giving cricket fans an opportunity to recall the history of 1992.
