Aryan Khan’s directorial debut topped the Netflix India Top 10 list within hours and has consistently ranked among the Top 5 most-watched non-English TV shows globally.
Since its September 18, 2025, premiere, the series quickly became a massive hit for Netflix. It topped the Netflix India Top 10 list within hours and has consistently ranked among the Top 5 most-watched non-English TV shows globally.
Upon the global success of his directorial debut, The Ba*ds of Bollywood, Aryan Khan reacted by quoting a line from the series: “Ab pehechana?” (“Now do you recognize me?”).
The quote was part of an official statement he provided to the streaming service Netflix India and not a live interview or social media post.
The comment is a reference to a character’s dialogue and reflects on his perseverance through past challenges to find success in his creative endeavors.
The show has trended in 14 countries, holding the #1 spot in nine of them. It has inspired a wave of memes, reels, and fan theories on social media platforms.

In a statement, Khan spoke about the difficulties he faced during production. He credited a line from the show’s character, Jaraj, played by Rajat Bedi, for keeping him motivated: “Haarne mein aur haar maanne mein bohot farak hota hai” (“There is a difference between losing and accepting defeat”).
The line “Ab pehechana?” is spoken by Jaraj, a character who is a washed-up 90s star struggling for relevance. The comeback actor uses the line when people eventually remember who he is, a moment that mirrors Khan’s journey to recognition for his own merit.
Khan remarked that seeing the happiness his work brought people was “deeply emotional” for him. He said that while the story began as his, it now truly belongs to the audience, and Netflix helped it reach people worldwide.
Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, The Ba**ds of Bollywood* is created by Aryan Khan along with co-creators Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, who also serve as writers of the show.
