A Lahore court on Wednesday sentenced a teenager to 100 years in prison for killing his mother, two sisters and a brother.
Additional Sessions Judge Riaz Ahmed delivered the verdict, sentencing the convict to a total of 100 years imprisonment and a fine of 4 million rupees for the murder of four individuals.
On January 22, 2022, 14-year-old boy Ali Zain shot dead his entire family, including his mother and two sisters while allegedly “under the influence” of online game PUBG.
Nahid Mubarak, a 45-year-old health worker, was found dead along with her 22-year-old son Taimur and two daughters aged 17 and 11 in Lahore. Her 14-year-old son, who remained unhurt and is the lone survivor of the family, turned out to be the murderer.
“The PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) addict boy confessed to have killed her mother and siblings under the influence of the game. He has developed some psychological issues because of spending long hours of the day playing the online game,” the statement said.
After the killings, Zain reportedly went to his room upstairs, rested for a while, and later left the house, discarding the pistol in a nearby drain. He then returned and pretended to be asleep, claiming he was unaware of the incident.
The police officer said investigators grew suspicious of Zain due to his odd body language. They decided to monitor him for a few days before taking action.
An inquiry was conducted from all possible angles, but no alternative leads were found. Eventually, on a Thursday, police took Zain Ali into custody on suspicion of murdering his family.
During the crime scene investigation, blood traces led investigators to Zain’s upstairs room. Blood stains were also found on his clothes, further confirming his involvement.
