The Palestinian Authority has accused Israel of carrying out illegal excavations beneath the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, claiming that the activity is destroying Islamic archaeological heritage.
According to the Palestinian Authority, these archaeological remains serve as irrefutable evidence of the legitimate historical rights of Muslims at the site of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
A video circulating on social media shows individuals breaking large stones after digging within the mosque compound.
Experts warn that these excavations aim to erase Al-Aqsa’s Islamic heritage and bolster claims of a so-called “temple” beneath the mosque. Conducted secretly and without international supervision, the work violates global conventions protecting antiquities and endangers the mosque’s structural integrity, threatening centuries-old Islamic architectural treasures.
Palestinian officials denounce the actions as a direct assault on Islamic civilization and human heritage, calling on international bodies to intervene and safeguard one of the world’s most sacred sites.
The Palestinian Authority condemned the Israeli activity as a blatant violation of international laws and conventions.
It stated that Israel’s objective is to erase Islamic identity from the site and eventually replace Al-Aqsa Mosque with a Jewish place of worship.
