Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police, who was also holding the additional charge of SSP Security, has been removed from both positions in Islamabad after President Asif Ali Zardari’s convoy deviated from its designated VVIP route due to poor supervision and mismanagement.
According to details, police officials said that Grade-18 officer Captain (Retd) Syed Zeeshan Haider put the President and his convoy at serious security risk.
On Thursday evening, President Zardari, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and others, left Aiwan-e-Sadr for a family visit in Bahria Town. After crossing Koral Chowk, the convoy diverted from the pre-designated VVIP route and security cordon. Instead of turning toward Bahria Town, it continued ahead, moving outside the secured zone.
As a result, the VVIP convoy remained stuck in traffic for more than half an hour.
The Interior Minister and concerned security agencies expressed serious concern over inadequate supervision and poor security arrangements. Consequently, Zeeshan Haider was removed from his posts and directed to report to the Central Police Office, Islamabad, until further orders.
Grade-19 officer, retired Squadron Leader Abdul Haq, has been given additional charge of SSP Security, while Grade-18 officer Pari Gul Tareen has been assigned additional charge of SSP Traffic Police.
