Kasur police on Saturday reported that a man accused of molesting a minor girl was injured after accidentally shooting himself in the private parts while attempting to draw his pistol on a raiding party.
The suspect, identified as Riyasat, allegedly intercepted a 10-year-old girl in Zaheerabad Colony while she was on her way to her aunt’s house.
According to police, he molested the child after finding her alone in the street. The girl’s cries for help forced him to flee, but CCTV footage from the area clearly captured the crime.
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s father, police registered a case and launched a manhunt using surveillance footage and other tracking methods. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by SHO Qurban Nawaz raided the suspect’s hideout.
During the raid, Riyasat allegedly attempted to pull out his pistol to resist arrest but misfired, injuring himself in the process. He was taken into custody and shifted to the hospital for treatment under police security.
Police noted this is the second such incident in Kasur within three weeks. In July, another suspect accused of harassing a minor in Shah Inayat Colony also accidentally shot himself in a similar manner while resisting police action.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing, and the accused will be prosecuted once medically fit.
