A video statement has surfaced of Dr. Usman Qazi, a BUITEMS professor in Quetta, confessing to links with the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and facilitating terrorist activities. His arrest, along with two other militants of the outlawed group ‘Fitna al-Hindustan,’ followed revelations of planned attacks, including suicide bombings during Independence Day celebrations.
According to security sources, in the last week of July, intelligence reports revealed that terrorists from the banned outfit were planning attacks in Quetta and other districts of Balochistan starting from early August. In response, law enforcement agencies devised a strategy to foil the plot and launched operations across the province to apprehend the militants.
Sources said that on August 11, a suicide bomber was arrested in Quetta. During initial interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he had been prepared for the attack by BUITEMS University professor Dr. Usman Qazi, who had also trained other bombers.
Following this lead, security forces carried out an operation in Afnan Town and arrested Dr. Usman Qazi. Based on his information, another suicide bomber was also taken into custody.
During interrogation, the arrested bomber confessed to working for the Majid Brigade of the banned BLA under “Fitna al-Hindustan” and admitted to training young men to carry out suicide missions.
Sources added that the mastermind confessed to facilitating the suicide attack at Quetta Railway Station on November 9, 2024, and revealed that additional bombers had been prepared to target security forces in Quetta and other cities during Independence Day celebrations.
Security officials said further investigations are ongoing, with more revelations and arrests expected.
