A devastating cloudburst in Swabi on Monday unleashed flash floods and landslides, leaving several people dead and dozens of homes destroyed.
According to Deputy Commissioner Swabi Nasrullah Khan, the cloudburst in Dalori village caused powerful floodwaters that swept away houses. “The flow of water is extremely fast due to the mountainous terrain, while landslides have blocked access at multiple points,” he said. Unconfirmed reports suggest at least 15 people have died in the disaster.
Rescue and relief teams have been dispatched to the affected areas, with additional support called in from Haripur and Mardan.
Meanwhile, torrential rains also wreaked havoc in Peshawar and Swat, where homes, schools, and infrastructure suffered heavy damage. The Swat district administration reported 22 deaths since August 15 and confirmed that over 400 houses and 124 schools were affected.
Nationwide, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that this year’s monsoon rains have claimed 660 lives so far, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recording the highest toll at 392 deaths.
