Star Indian opener Rohit Sharma has leapfrogged Pakistan’s Babar Azam to claim the second spot in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, released on Wednesday.
Babar, who managed scores of 47, 0, and 9 in the recent ODI series against the West Indies, slipped to third place with 751 rating points. India’s Shubman Gill remains unshaken at the top of the list, retaining his number one position.
Pakistan’s disappointing series loss to the West Indies — their first ODI series defeat against the Caribbean side in 34 years — had repercussions for several players’ rankings. Young opener Saim Ayub endured the steepest drop, tumbling nine spots to 46th. ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan fell one place to 22nd, while Fakhar Zaman, who missed the series due to injury, dropped four positions to 27th. Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha also slipped down the order, now sitting at 37th and 41st respectively.
The bowling rankings also saw significant movement. West Indies pacer Jayden Seales surged 24 places to 33rd after claiming 10 wickets in the series, including a match-winning six-wicket haul in the decider.
Pakistan’s pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi moved down one place to 13th with 599 points, having taken four wickets across two matches. Spinner Abrar Ahmed climbed three spots to 54th, Mohammad Nawaz held steady at 64th, and Mohammad Wasim Jr fell four places to 71st.
The top 10 bowlers’ list remained unchanged, with Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana continuing to hold the number one position.
