Dr. Mubeena Qasim is the chairperson of an international humanitarian organization called Hope. She has been involved in activities focused on the health, education, and well-being of children. Under her leadership, the organization has organized events such as distributing Eid gifts and food packages to poor and needy children in remote areas of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.
However, she has been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Karachi on allegations of trafficking 23 children abroad using fake adoption documents. The arrest followed a complaint by the US Consulate, and she is accused of running a fraudulent operation involving illegal smuggling of children overseas under the guise of adoption.
According to sources, the accused was involved in smuggling minor children abroad, especially to the US. This nefarious network was exposed when the US Consulate filed a formal complaint with the FIA, after which an investigation was launched.
A case was registered after clear evidence emerged during the investigation. To avoid arrest, the accused had applied for pre-arrest bail, but the court rejected her application on Monday. After this, FIA officials took immediate action and arrested her.
Sources said that this arrest is a significant development in the FIA’s ongoing campaign against organized human trafficking networks, especially those networks that are running the nefarious business under the guise of “welfare organizations.”
FIA officials have said that the scope of the investigation has been widened and action is expected soon against other possible facilitators.
