The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) conducted raids on the offices of fan manufacturing companies in Gujrat on suspicion of price fixing. Authorities reportedly obtained evidence of alleged price manipulation and potential cartel formation.
According to the CCP, a raid was also carried out at the office of the Fan Manufacturers Association. Searches and inspections were conducted at the offices of both the manufacturers and the association, during which digital records and documentation related to alleged price fixing were collected.
The statement noted that circulars issued by the Fan Manufacturers Association revealed coordinated pricing decisions, and several fan brands were found to have altered their prices on the same date.
The CCP said that identical pricing across different models of ceiling fans, along with uniform price adjustments by multiple brands, pointed to suspected cartel behavior.
The Commission stressed that these patterns of uniform pricing provide evidence of possible collusion.
Meanwhile, the CCP has made notable strides in reducing its legal backlog and recovering penalties, with 223 cases decided, effectively cutting the backlog by more than 40%.
