The Taliban government in Afghanistan has sentenced a man to death for committing blasphemy.
According to Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, spokesperson for the Taliban’s interim Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, a man named Abdul Aleem Khamosh from the Janikhel area of Paktika province confessed to disrespecting Islamic beliefs — particularly the sanctity of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The spokesman stated that following the confession, the court handed down the death sentence.
Reports indicate that Abdul Aleem, a schoolteacher by profession, was arrested about 20 days ago.
According to the ministry, the sentence was issued after a thorough investigation and the accused’s own admission of guilt.
The spokesman further emphasized that blasphemy is considered a “grave sin” and a “serious offense” under Islamic law.
This sentencing comes amid a broader Taliban crackdown, as the regime has already punished several individuals accused of insulting Islamic sanctities. However, it remains unclear when the execution will be carried out.
