The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the new Test and ODI player rankings, which have seen several major changes in the batting, bowling, and all-rounder categories.
English batsman Harry Brook, who played a brilliant innings of 158 runs in the Edgbaston Test, has snatched the title of the world’s number one batsman in Test cricket from Joe Root.
In the latest rankings, Brook has come out on top by a difference of 18 points, while Joe Root has moved to second place.
Indian captain Shubman Gill has achieved a career-best sixth position after playing two brilliant innings of 269 and 161 runs in the Edgbaston Test, followed by Kane Williamson (third), Yashvi Jaiswal (fourth), and Steve Smith (fifth).
England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith has improved in 16 places in the top 10 after playing an unbeaten innings of 184 and 88 runs against India, and he has now come to tenth place.
South Africa’s Wayne Mulder scored an unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe and declared the team’s innings at 626/5, although he had the chance to break Brian Lara’s world record.
His impressive performance has taken him up 12 places to third in the all-rounders’ rankings. Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja continues to lead the Test all-rounders’ rankings.
Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, despite being rested, retained the top position among Test bowlers.
India’s Mohammad Siraj has moved up six places to 22nd in the Test bowling rankings after his excellent performance against England.
