The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has decided to install e-gates at the international airports of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. These e-gates will be installed in the international arrival and departure lounges to make the immigration process faster and easier, eliminating long queues for passengers.
The e-gates will use artificial intelligence (AI) to process passenger documents and biometric identification. Around 100 e-gates will be installed under this project and the project will be completed in two years.
According to PAA officials, a team of German experts has finalized the basic design of the e-gates and a three-day workshop was also held in Karachi. During this, consultations were held with other stakeholders, including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The project is part of efforts to make Pakistan’s airports compliant with international standards and provide modern facilities. Adnan Ahmed, Additional Director of Engineering Services, told The Express Tribune that the project, which started in September last year, has been awarded to a leading German company, M2P.
E-gates is an automated system that automates the immigration process, saving passengers time, providing convenience and improving security.
