Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was presented with a progress report by the traffic police on violations of traffic laws from May 9 to 16, 2025, as reported by national media on Saturday.
On the Chief Minister’s directives, a crackdown on traffic violations is ongoing. According to the report presented to Murad Ali Shah, 43,852 motorcycles were seized within a week due to lack of helmets and violations of laws. Action was taken against 3,951 vehicles for using fancy number plates and tinted windows, while 685 heavy and light vehicles were taken into custody for legal violations.
In the report, the traffic police recommended cancellation of registration for 25 vehicles due to lack of fitness and temporary suspension of registration for 663 vehicles. It was also reported that 22 challans were issued for serious traffic law violations.
Murad Ali Shah was also presented with a report on the irregularities of Qingqi and motorcycle rickshaw drivers and the actions taken against them from April 16 to May 16. The Chief Minister stated that Qingqi and motorcycle rickshaws are banned on 11 model roads in the city.
The traffic police reported that 194 FIRs were registered, 434 Qingqi and motorcycle rickshaws were impounded, 434 drivers were arrested, and 25 unregistered Qingqi and motorcycle rickshaws were seized. Action was taken against 377 vehicles for illegally installing LPG and CNG.
The Chief Minister issued strict instructions to the Inspector General, saying no leniency would be shown for breaking the law. “Following traffic laws protects your life. Citizens should respect traffic rules to safeguard their own and others’ lives.”
He instructed the traffic police to strictly ensure helmet use, avoid fancy number plates and tinted windows, and enforce the 30 km/h speed limit for heavy traffic. Strict action will be taken against those who bring unfit and unregistered vehicles on the roads.
