Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, as a sacred time for Muslims as they abstain from food and drink from pre-dawn to sunset during this month.

In recent year, fasting’s popularity has grown beyond religious boundaries, attracting people from all walks of life regardless of their background or beliefs. As an example intermittent fasting has become increasingly popular among celebrities and everyday folks. Fasting brings a number of health perks such as losing weight, managing blood sugar, and guarding against health issues like cancer and brain diseases.

Here some key health benefits of fasting:

Help you lose weight

Various studies show that regulating meal timings or engaging in short-term fasts can aid weight reduction, fat loss, and improve blood lipids.

Enhances blood sugar management

Fasting can improve blood sugar control and potentially lower the risk of diabetes, according to numerous studies. Intermittent fasting benefits those with type 2 diabetes by reducing fasting glucose and insulin, decreasing insulin resistance, and lowering the appetite hormone leptin.

Promotes abdominal health

Research suggests that fasting positively impacts the diversity and number of beneficial gut bacteria, which can influence weight, waist measurement, and metabolism.

Influences Metabolism

During fasting, the body adapts by altering hormone levels to make stored body fat more accessible and initiating repair processes. Gene expression changes also enhance the muscles’ ability to use fats.

Positive impact on heart

Fasting may lower some risk factors for heart disease, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and markers of inflammation.

Disease prevention

Fasting allows the body to focus on other crucial functions, including disease prevention, by initiating a process called autophagy. This “house-keeping” mechanism removes waste materials from cells, potentially reducing the risk of conditions like heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

May extend lifespan

In animal studies, fasting and a low-protein diet have been associated with increased life expectancy. Fasting boosts human growth hormone levels, which play a crucial role in growth, repair, metabolism, weight loss, muscle strength, and exercise performance. However, more studies are needed to understand its effects on human aging fully.

May reduce anxiety

Fasting has been reported to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and improve social connection in human studies.
