The physical remand of arrested suspects Armaghan Qureshi and Sherar in the murder case of young Mustafa Amir, who was kidnapped and killed in Karachi’s Defence area, has been extended for another five days.
According to national media, the hearing of the case regarding Mustafa Amir’s abduction and murder was held in the Karachi Anti-Terrorism Court, where the investigating officer requested a 14-day physical remand for the suspects.
The investigating officer stated in court that the statements of two employees of Armaghan under Section 164 need to be recorded, and the forensic analysis of weapons and a laptop recovered from Armaghan’s house must also be conducted.
During the hearing, accused Armaghan collapsed in the courtroom. On this, the Prosecutor General remarked that he had collapsed similarly in the High Court and ATC Court No. 2 as well. However, when his medical examination was conducted, he was found completely fit.
In court, Armaghan alleged that he was not being given food. Advocate Tahir Rehman Tanoli submitted a power of attorney on behalf of Armaghan’s mother. The court asked Armaghan whether he recognized him as his lawyer.
Sherar’s lawyer, Khurram Abbas, argued in court that Sherar had no connection to the case. He also claimed that police raided Sherar’s house without female officers and took his sister’s laptop as well.
After hearing the arguments, the court extended the physical remand of Armaghan and Sherar for five more days and directed their medical examination.
It is worth noting that Mustafa Amir was abducted on January 6, and after a month, on February 8, police raided a bungalow in Karachi’s Defence Khayaban-e-Momin to recover him. During the operation, the police came under fire, resulting in injuries to three officers, including a DSP.
During interrogation, suspect Armaghan revealed that he, along with Sherar, had stuffed Mustafa into the trunk of his own car, taken him to Hub, and burned him.
