Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah conducted an early-morning inspection of the Malir Expressway, focusing on a 9-km stretch between Jam Sadiq Bridge and Shah Faisal Interchange. Without protocol, Shah directed the project to be completed by December 30 to open for traffic.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Tuesday, Murad Ali Shah warned officials, including the Karachi Commissioner and DIG Police, against encroachments and illegal parking along the route. Addressing Engineer Khalid Mansoor, he urged the removal of illegal structures and expedited work to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The expressway will slash travel time between Jam Sadiq Bridge and Jinnah Terminal to just 15 minutes. Shah highlighted its significance as a high-speed corridor connecting Shah Faisal, the airport, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and the National Highway. The expressway will be restricted to vehicles, banning motorcycles and rickshaws, with security checkpoints ensuring safety.
After opening the first phase, priority will shift to extending the route to Kathore. Shah also instructed the installation of road lighting ahead of a planned night inspection. Calling the expressway a “game-changer,” he emphasized its role in addressing Karachi’s traffic woes and improving connectivity for commuters and cargo transport. “This project is critical for Karachi’s future,” Shah reiterated, committing to its timely completion.
