A fleet of 86 eco-friendly electric buses, including 50 nine-meter-long and 36 eleven-meter-long vehicles, will soon begin operations on six routes in Faisalabad.
Three depots are being established at Ghulam Muhammad Abad, Sargodha Road, and Gatwala for this bus service. These depots will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including charging stations, solar power systems, a command and control system, and service stations.
As part of the project, 157 modern bus shelters and 178 flag posts will be constructed across the city. A dedicated software application will provide passengers with real-time updates on bus timings and routes, enhancing convenience and efficiency.
Punjab Secretary of Transport Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, during his visit to Faisalabad, directed the district administration, Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA), traffic police, municipal bodies, and other relevant departments to repair and prepare the designated routes to ensure the project’s timely implementation. The electric bus service is set to launch on August 14, 2025.
During a briefing, officials presented the Sustainable Financing Model for Punjab Urban Public Transport under the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, along with the Faisalabad Quality Public Transport Network report. Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Nadeem Nasir proposed extending the Metro Bus Service to the Canal Expressway, Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development & Management Company (FIEDMC), and Sargodha Road up to Chiniot, suggesting integration with WASA to improve urban connectivity.
