A special court in Islamabad on Thursday charged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and chairman Imran Khan, along with his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case, also referred to as the jewelry set case.

According to a report by Geo News, Judge Shahrukh Arjumand of Special Court Central-I presided over the proceedings at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and formally framed charges against the couple.

Originally filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the case was later taken over by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following amendments to NAB laws. The FIA submitted its challan in September this year.

Although both Khan and Bushra have been granted bail in the case, only Bushra Bibi remains out of custody, as Khan continues to be imprisoned in connection with other cases.

The charges allege that the couple caused a loss to the national exchequer by illegally selling state gifts. They were initially arrested in this case on July 13, the same day they were acquitted in another case related to iddat.

In October, Bushra Bibi was released after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved her post-arrest bail, ending months in detention. The following month, the IHC also granted bail to Imran Khan, though he remains behind bars due to other legal cases.

Despite these developments, the couple’s legal troubles persist. Imran Khan faces charges in as many as 188 cases, while Bushra Bibi risks re-arrest. Earlier in December, Judge Arjumand issued bailable arrest warrants against her for failing to attend hearings, a matter the IHC warned could result in her bail being revoked.

How many cases are filed against Imran Khan?

The number of cases registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has risen to 186, following the party’s November 24 protest, with the majority filed in Punjab.

This update came a day after the interior secretary informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that 14 additional cases were filed against Khan in the federal capital, increasing the tally there from 62 to 76.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard a petition by Noreen Niazi, Imran Khan’s sister, seeking a comprehensive list of the cases against him. In response, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) submitted detailed reports.

According to the report, 99 cases have been registered in Punjab and 2 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, Khan faces 7 cases with the FIA, 3 with NAB, and one Toshakhana reference.
