Provincial Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that air quality monitors recently installed will be instrumental to input accurate data, thereby timely detection of sources of air pollution and prevent it.
Talking about the second phase of government work, she said, “25 additional air monitors will be set up to expand the monitoring network further.
The minister highlighted the work done so far and said, “Air pollution monitors in Lahore have been increased to eight with three new ones.” She further elaborated on distribution by pointing out that three air monitors have been installed at Rawalpindi, one each at Faisalabad and Sheikhupura while two air monitors have been set up at Gujranwala and Bahawalpur and one at Sialkot.
Aurangzeb also highlighted that all these monitoring equipment have been incorporated into the central control room of the EPA. This high-tech digital system has also been configured to share related data into the global information system for smooth monitoring at local and international levels.
She stated that there was political will to be open, adding: “Instead of hiding information, we are instituting a new culture of providing factual data to the public.”
The senior minister concluded by pointing out the need for constant monitoring of air quality, which he described as a bedrock step toward long-lasting and sustainable solutions to air pollution.
