Faisalabad is set to receive its much-anticipated Metro Bus Service as the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) accelerates efforts to launch the project, which is expected to cost Rs70 billion.
The Punjab government has approved the initiative, aiming to provide the residents of Faisalabad with safe and affordable intercity transportation.
During a press conference, FDA Director General Chaudhry Muhammad Asif shared updates on the project, stating that preliminary planning—including a comprehensive survey, sectoral analysis, and a strategic transport framework—has been completed. This marks the first major public transport initiative of its kind for Faisalabad.
Last week, a consultative workshop was held in Lahore, chaired by Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, Bilal Akbar Khan. Representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and transport and planning officials discussed the technical and administrative aspects of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
International and national experts presented detailed insights on the project’s design, operations, and proposed routes. Asif highlighted the partnership between the Punjab government and ADB, aiming to introduce an eco-friendly, high-capacity, and cost-efficient bus service, similar to existing systems in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar.
