Many of America’s decisions also create significant waves in world politics, as seen in its interventions in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya, often resulting in substantial loss of life. This is sometimes considered normal, and perhaps that is why an Urdu poet remarked:

America has consistently used its unmatched military power to sustain its foreign policy. By leveraging this superiority, it maintains its presence, dominance, and influence across various countries with the help of its allies.
The debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump before the U.S. presidential election holds considerable significance. The President of the United States wields considerable influence over global affairs, and history shows that U.S. Presidents have frequently intervened in the affairs of other countries, often causing economic harm. Given the U.S.’s significant control over major global financial institutions, including the IMF, Pakistan relies on U.S. support.
Today’s presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump broadcast to billions worldwide, is likely to impact the U.S. presidential election on November 4. Pre-debate polls show Donald Trump’s popularity at 48 percent, while Kamala Harris stands at 47 percent.
It is worth noting that the debate between current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump on June 27 led to a notable surge in Trump’s popularity. Trump’s approval ratings soared, particularly after his strong responses following the assassination attack. However, such sympathy and emotional support are often fleeting. Since Kamala Harris’s nomination, her popularity has been gradually increasing, suggesting a shift in the competitive balance of the election.
Kamala Harris has extensive experience as a prosecutor and Attorney General, which has honed her skills in debate and argumentation. During the debate, she made a strong impression with her confident demeanor. Key topics included abortion, immigration, the economy, and unemployment, with Harris particularly dominating on abortion and immigration policy.
When Donald Trump raised the issue of racial discrimination, Kamala Harris responded with confidence and reason, asserting that America belongs to everyone and rejecting racial division. Trump failed to present a concrete plan for the future, whereas Harris outlined her economic plan and discussed her positions on healthcare and other future initiatives.

She also addressed Trump’s court convictions and scandals, visibly shaking his confidence. The American presidency has a significant impact on countries like Pakistan. Considering Pakistan’s trade, anti-terrorism efforts, and political dynamics, some Pakistani political forces seem influenced by America. Therefore, the new U.S. president will likely affect Pakistan’s situation.
The election of the American president will also impact regional politics, but significant changes in U.S.-India relations seem unlikely due to the consistent U.S. foreign policy stance regarding China’s influence.
Given today’s debate, it appears that Kamala Harris may gain an edge in the presidential election, possibly paving the way for a woman to become the U.S. President for the first time. In this context, Pakistan should start strengthening its influence in America. Pakistani communities and diplomatic representatives in the U.S. should be mobilized, as support from a country like America could lead to increased investment and aid.
It would be ideal if our foreign office could be more proactive in addressing regional and international issues, as well as our economic needs, to build a positive relationship with the future American president and their team. This would ensure that Pakistan’s interests remain safeguarded after the new president takes office.
