In a tragic turn of events, a local cleric from Gujrat Tehsil’s Kharian has allegedly killed his three-month-old daughter by throwing her into a canal. The incident took place in Chak Fateh Shah on Thursday. Following the report, rescue teams combed the canal for the child’s body.
Inspector Mujahid Abbas, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Dinga Police Station, revealed that 35-year-old Ali Ahmed and his wife had frequently argued about their daughter, Zainab. According to SHO Abbas, “On Thursday, the suspect took the child and threw her into the canal in front of his wife.”
The complainant’s First Information Report (FIR) details that they witnessed the couple quarreling by the canal when Ali seized Zainab and threw her in. The FIR further states that Ali intended to kill the child by doing so.
SHO Abbas confirmed that Ali was arrested on Thursday at a bus stop in Amrah hamlet. Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 Punjab initiated a search operation for Zainab. Rescue 1122 District In-Charge Umar Ghumman reported that the team, accompanied by police, conducted an extensive search of approximately five kilometers using boats and diving gear to locate the child’s body.
