Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged with three violations of the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption code. According to an ICC statement released on Thursday, the 25-year-old Jayawickrama has 14 days from August 6 to respond to these charges.
Jayawickrama is alleged to have failed to report an approach he received regarding match-fixing during the 2021 Lanka Premier League and future international matches. Additionally, the ICC accuses him of deleting messages related to this corrupt approach.
Jayawickrama made his international debut in a Test match against Bangladesh in 2021, where he has since taken 25 wickets across five Test matches. His most recent Test appearance was against Bangladesh in 2022.
He has also played five One Day Internationals and five T20s, with his last international appearance occurring during the T20 series against Australia in Sri Lanka in 2022. Jayawickrama was part of the Jaffna Kings team that won the LPL in 2021 and represented the Dambulla Sixers in the current season of the LPL.
