ISLAMABAD: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Prime Minister and dissatisfied leader within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has revealed plans to establish his political entity, as reported on Monday.
According to sources, Abbasi has formally submitted an application to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking registration for his new political party. All necessary documents, mandated by the Election Act 2017, have been diligently furnished to the electoral authority by the seasoned politician.
Speaking to the media, Abbasi confirmed the submission of requisite paperwork to the ECP, expressing his intention to contest the upcoming elections under the banner of his newly formed political entity. Notably, he refrained from participating in the general elections held on February 8.
Last year witnessed Abbasi’s resignation from the position of senior vice president within the PML-N, citing irreconcilable differences with the party on various fronts.
Abbasi, who served as the 21st Prime Minister of Pakistan until May 2018, boasts a long-standing political career spanning over three decades. He has represented the National Assembly of Pakistan for eight non-consecutive terms. Additionally, Abbasi’s tenure includes a stint as Chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) until 1999.
