Prominent figures from Lollywood, including actresses Ushna Shah and Mishi Khan, are leading a movement to boycott the global fashion giant ‘Zara’ in the aftermath of a controversial photoshoot.

Known for their activism and outspoken views, Shah and Khan are challenging the appropriateness of Zara’s recent campaign. Ushna Shah, renowned for her candid nature, took to social media platform X to express her concerns. In a tweet, she questioned the integrity of Zara’s brand, suggesting that individuals should consider discarding their Zara clothing as a form of protest against the brand’s failure to represent diverse voices.

So do we throw away existing #zara clothes or just not buy new ones? IMO since they don’t have logos on them I don’t think wearing ones we already have should be a problem? Never shopping there again, obviously. #Boycott_zara #BoycottZara

“So do we throw away existing zara clothes or just not buy new ones? IMO since they don’t have logos on them I don’t think wearing ones we already have should be a problem?” Shah questioned, urging Zara owners to dispose of their items in solidarity with the protest. She initiated the hashtag #BoycottZara, which gained rapid traction on social media, particularly in Pakistan.

Ushna Shah’s tweet gained attention amid the scrutiny of Zara’s recent photoshoot. The controversial campaign featured small, shrouded figures reminiscent of Muslim burials in white fabric, coupled with depictions of the challenging conditions faced by Palestinians.

I will never purchase anything from this brand for the rest of my life. Shame on you @ZARA #BoycottZara pic.twitter.com/Ut8KxChVmY

— Mishi khan (@mishilicious) December 10, 2023

In response to widespread condemnation, Ushna Shah committed to refraining from purchasing Zara products in the future. Mishi Khan, another actress, echoed the criticism, expressing strong disapproval of the Zara brand and pledging not to buy their clothes again.

Beyond the actresses, Pakistani users collectively expressed disappointment, questioning the use of Palestinian struggles for the brand’s promotional campaigns. Social media users united in expressing outrage over the perceived exploitation of the suffering of innocent Palestinians. As a result, Zara reportedly removed the contentious image from its platforms. The image in question depicted a model lifting a slim figure, resembling a shroud, on her shoulders—a portrayal similar to how Palestinians bury their children.
