The current government, with only a few days left in power, wants to take some final actions that may seem extremely pleasant, but in reality, things are quite the opposite.
For example, if the planning of highly controversial events and allegations of terrorism against Imran Khan on May 9th then action could have been taken against him, but that did not happen.
The month of August and the last days of a government’s tenure can be worrisome because the current government may not realize that the same actions they criticized before are now being mirrored in their own actions, just like Imran Khan’s government.
During Imran Khan’s tenure, just as the former ministers of PML-N and PPP faced arrests and accountability, the same fate is now befalling Imran Khan as well. Therefore, it may not be baseless to say that Imran Khan’s arrest is a reaction to his own policies.
Previously, the then Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, and others used to claim that arrests and accountability were not political but a result of the law taking its course. Now, Maryam Nawaz and others are making the same statement that Imran Khan’s arrest is not political.
Let’s assume that the arrest is not political; even then, it was not lawful because the judge hurriedly delivered the verdict. Clearly, the judge was also afraid of delivering justice and the potential consequences of his decision.
The police were also present, and as soon as the verdict was announced, they reached Lahore and then Jinnah Park, where they apprehended Imran Khan and took him to the airport to transport him to Islamabad.
There were significant restrictions on the media not to mention Imran Khan’s name, referring to him only as the PTI Chairman. However, whenever news of his arrest surfaced, the media rushed to cover the event.
So, Imran Khan’s arrest by the current government of PDM, cannot be seen as their success but rather their failure even before stepping into the electoral arena.
