Singer The Weeknd has reverted his real name Abel Tesfaye back on his social media platforms after vowing to ‘kill off’ his professional persona.
The 33-year-old singer has been known as ‘The Weeknd’ for 12 years. He recently revealed his plans to drop the name after the release of his next album. Now, he has changed his username to his real name – Abel Tesfaye – on his social media platforms, including Twitter and Instagram.
The Blinding Lights singer previously revealed ‘The Weeknd’ originated from him dropping out of school, taking his mattress, ‘leaving one weekend and never coming home.’ It is missing the ‘e’ to avoid copyright issues as there was already a Canadian band called The Weekend.

His full birth name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, but he came to fame as The Weeknd with the 2016 album Starboy. On the work front, The Weekend will soon star in an upcoming HBO’s project ‘The Idol’ alongside Lily-Rose Depp, which will be released on June 4.
