KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) Hyderabad circuit bench on Tuesday barred the provincial police from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati in cases registered against him within the jurisdiction — which includes Mithi, Nawabshah, and Hyderabad.
As per details, the divisional bench comprised of Justice Adnan Karim and Justice Mehmood A Khan heard the case.
The PTI senator is the subject of multiple cases that have been filed in the same case, according to the Swati attorney, which is also a breach of court orders.
The circuit bench served notices to the Sindh inspector-general of police (IGP), Hyderabad deputy inspector-general (DIG) and FIA, directing them to submit the details of the cases lodged against the incarcerated senator on the next hearing.
“What number of cases have been filed against Swati,” Justice Mehmood enquired. In response, the petitioner’s attorney stated that Matti, Nawabshah, and Hyderabad have each received three cases in total. In the instances under this court’s jurisdiction, the petitioner asked for relief.
Earlier this week, the SHC’s Karachi registry had barred the police from arresting the senator in additional cases and had sought details of the cases already registered against him in the province.
During the hearing today, Swati’s counsel Noorul Haq Qureshi contended that the registration of multiple cases against the PTI leader was a violation of the Supreme Court’s orders.
It has further summoned responses from the respondents in the case by January 11.
