Pakistan faced a severe shortage of Panadol September. There was news the widely used OTC medicine is no longer being produced by its manufacturer. Later, the news was denied by the makers.

Now, recently, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Pakistan Ltd has suspended the manufacturing of Panadol, saying it has become unsustainable to produce the over-the-counter medicine on negative margins.

Since then, the hashtag Panadol has been trending on social media. Here’s what users have to say:

Panadol going out of production at Shehbaz Speed!

The “Most Competent Administrator” turned down a proposal in Cabinet to increase prices of medicines.

Panadol is now being sold in market at around Rs 6-8/tablet which would go up further after recent announcement by GSK.

The 1980s campaign warning against aspirin use by children appears to have coincided with a dramatic increase in the sale of newer, more profitable drugs like Tylenol/Panadol…Probably “just a coincidence”.

Pakistan is likely to see worsening medicine crisis after GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare Pakistan on Friday announced to stop the production of all Panadol products, saying the company is facing heavy financial losses. #Melbourne #TikTok #PakArmy pic.twitter.com/sYrafjbQsB

Some nights even “panadol night” can’t help

In a regulatory filing to the PSX, the pharmaceutical company said it’s “forced to declare” force majeure, a condition in contracts that frees all parties from liability in an extraordinary event, with respect to the production of Panadol tablets. pic.twitter.com/9fzbR6BbFP

Let’s promote made in Pakistan brands. Panadol has a simple formula not rocket science. So nothing to make hue & cry

When will our politicians learn to promote made in Pakistan, Muzamil you are better than this… Ask your party fund providers to launch a substitute of pansdol
