A Charter of Economy

MM News Staff by MM News Staff

Amidst the ongoing series of audio leaks, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has continued to implement his strategy of increasing political pressure on the government. In recent days, when tapes of important and high-level meetings held in the Prime Minister’s House and some private conversations of federal cabinet members began to leak, political observers believed that the government, which is already facing the pressure of Imran Khan’s movement, will not be able to bear the load of these leaks and will face problems to maintain her existence.

However, within a few days, the game changed as the audio leaks turned away from the government to PTI. Several audio tapes of Imran Khan and other PTI leaders surfaced, which apparently can be harmful to the political reputation of Imran Khan and PTI. The government finally took a sigh of relief, but the difficult challenge of dealing with Imran Khan’s upcoming long march still looms ahead.

Both sides are equally prepared for the final and decisive fight against each other while the country is deeply in debt, economic recovery has so far been a difficult challenge and there is no sign of concrete and comprehensive measures to curb the situation. Fixing the economy was an immense challenge for the current government from the day first. In the beginning, Miftah Ismail accepted the heavy responsibility of leading this battle as a Finance Minister, but despite all his efforts in six months, he was not able to achieve much.

Consequently, the government was compelled to sack Miftah and call Ishaq Dar from London. The government is now determined and confident that it will succeed in bringing the economy back on track. Initially, there are some positive signs from Ishaq Dar’s initiatives, but the fact is that the revival of the economy is not the work of a single individual. This is also not only the responsibility of the government, but creating an environment for economic recovery is the duty of all political parties and everyone needs to play their role for this.

The major obstacle in the way of economic recovery is political instability in the country. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has also expressed this. Talking to the media yesterday he said that the political parties should decide that there will be no politics on the economy. Undoubtedly, at this time, an economic charter or an economic pact is the need of the hours, in which all the ruling and opposition parties jointly make a long-term plan, containing solid and comprehensive points for the recovery of the economy, and pledge to implement it with letter and spirit.

The fact is that this is not the time for political adventures and confrontation between the government and the opposition. It is necessary for the opposition to realize the critical situation of the economy, and adopt a way of solving the issues in the parliament instead of on the roads, to prevent further damage to the fragile economy of Pakistan.
