Foreign conspiracy and power politics

Last month, the PTI government was overthrown by a no-confidence motion. PTI leaders are still pushing the narrative that a foreign conspiracy was hatched to oust Imran Khan citing a purported threatening letter mentions a no-confidence motion.

PTI chairman Imran Khan recently revealed that he was aware of a conspiracy to remove him in July and that something was happening as meetings with opposition leaders at the US embassy had intensified. He then went on saying that meetings first started with deviant members and US diplomat Donald Lu insulted 220 million Pakistanis by saying that the country n would have to suffer the consequences if he managed to survive the no-confidence vote.

Some politicians have a tendency to portray lies as the truth. Cuttlefish lays thousands of eggs in the depths of the ocean in the darkness of night. These eggs are more delicious than chicken. Since it does not make noise, no one eats its eggs. The hen lays an egg and makes a noise and you will find eggs being openly sold in the market. Imran Khan’s claims have something similar.

Whether it is the threatening letter fiasco, foreign conspiracies, calling the opposition a traitor or other serious allegations, ridiculing opposition leaders and harsh statements, the PTI leaders didn’t back down from peddling their narrative.

The ugly manner in which the PTI government tried to thwart the no-confidence motion was exemplary. Imran Khan has the dubious distinction as the only prime minister who was ousted from power through a vote of no confidence.

First, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri stunned the nation after rejecting the no-confidence motion and then prime minister announced to dissolve the assemblies. The nation was plunged into a constitutional crisis soon after.  Moments later, the Supreme Court took notice of the incident. The hearing lasted for a few days and then such a unprecedented decision came out which the nation never anticipated.

PTI ministers were saying that the Supreme Court does not have the power to decide on the ruling of the Speaker as the proceedings of parliament cannot be challenged anywhere. Bus we saw how a bench of esteemed judges headed by the Chief Justice did so and restored the National Assembly.

The prime minister returns to power and a no-confidence motion was moved. Here we hoped that there would be full resistance from PTI because Imran Khan said he will play till the last ball. After a late-night political drama, he left the Prime Minister’s House unceremoniously. Soon after, we have a new government and Shehbaz Sharif takes oath as the prime minister. Imran Khan shows his disapproval and vows to resist the “imported government”.

Surprisingly, during Imran Khan’s three-and-a-half-year rule, the people who were disturbed by the rising prices did not ask the PTI chairman for his performance. Now the enitre emphasis lies on sending Shahbaz Sharif’s government home.

My question here is why the memory of Pakistanis is so weak? Why did they forget what Imran Khan promised 100 days? He was not able to control inflation. He had said that he would not go to IMF still went to seek bailout.

Why do we forget that Imran Khan is the same ruler who promised the rule of law and poor would be taken care of, but on the contrary, the rich were given amnesty schemes and the poor were given shallow promises.

I am not saying that Shahbaz Sharif is a magician and the PML-N government must stay in power and complete its term.  If Imran Khan is not allowed to complete his turn, then the same should happen with PML-N as well.

This game of musical chairs for will continue. Understanding the facts and deciding according to them is always a matter of time. What is most needed today is for the nation to understand and face its real goals and challenges.
