ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday prevented the police from arresting Shireen Mazari’s daughter Imman Zainab Mazari and others in a sedition case lodged against them over protesting for the recovery of an allegedly missing student of Quaid Azam University.
While proceeding with the application of Mazari against the case, Chief Justice Attar Minullah also directed the police to provide the FIR copy to the applicant, and the court summoned Home Secretary, Inspector General Islamabad Police in person on Monday.
In his remark, the Chief Justice said that Students of Baluchistan, protesting for their missing colleague, should be listened to, and those who were suppressing the voice of the students should be booked in a sedition case.
The federal police on Thursday registered a sedition case against human rights activist and lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari, daughter of the Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari after she participated in Baloch students’ protest.
Hundreds of Baloch students had staged a sit-in outside the National Press Club in the federal capital. Imaan Mazari also joined the sit-in.
Sources said that in a bid to disperse them, the Islamabad police had baton-charged the protesters. A case of sedition was registered against Mazari and hundreds of Baloch students for “rebellion, rioting, and raising of anti-state slogans.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered against the suspects at the Kohsar Police Station in Islamabad, sources said.
